1 pm St. Peter, Bridge (5 miles S.E. of Canterbury on me mld
A 2 to Dover road)

A flat bed, 2 train countwheel strike clock by Gillet
& Bland of Croydon. Installed in 1874 and 'supplied" _
by R.E.Roberts of 91 St. Dunstans Street, Canterbury-
Thisciock, like many others by Eillet & Bland, has a
single '15 legged‘ gravity escapement.

2 pm St. Vincent, Litt1ebourne(5 miles E of Canterbury mm
the A 257 to Sandwich) .

An interesting birdcage framed clock with extended
winding barrels. This shape is sometimes referred t@
as a 'Chair—Frame'. A plate is attached to the move—
ment engraved 'E.S,Hardeman, Canterbury 1855'. The
movement was probably only supplied by Hardeman and
purchased from a turret clockmaker such as Smith of
Clerkenwell. The movement is nicely made and is‘
fitted with a half dead beat escapement.

5 pm St. Mary the Virgin, Winaham (6 miles E of Canterbury‘
on the A 257 to Sandwich)

An interesting 2 train mid 17th century birdcage
movement converted to anchor escapement in 1722 and
restored in 1980 with the addition of electric auto~

winding. ,

Note: We must vacate the tower by 5.50 pm to allow
the bel1—ringers to ring up the bells for a Wedding
at 4 pmll ' ‘

1 4 pm St. Nicholas, Ash (9 miles E of Canterbury on the
I A 257 to Sandwich)

A modern 2 train flat—bed movement supplied by
Gillet & Johnson of Croydon and installed in 1951
at a cost of £107. In 1978 the movement had the
addition of auto~electric winding.
