She had by his/18 children whereof 5 sons and 4 daughters/mourn for the loss of their good Mother./Margaret ye 3d Daughter who died May 24th 1738 lies buried near this Chancel/Elizth LADY YOUNG, relict of SIR WM.YOUNG Bar/ (who is interred at CHARTHAM with his first wife/SARAH, daughter of CHARLES FAGG Esqr) lies entombed without this wall, with her aunt,/MRS MARY TAYLOR. She was the only surviving issue of BROOK TAYLOR of BIFRONS L.L.D. & F.R.S. Afterwards another in Bridge and/ when He had improv’d them, and Rais’d/a Beautiful Garden to Bifrons, He settled/the whole upon His Family/He gave several ornaments of value to/the Church, He was a strict economist, a just/Dealer, and a Friend to the Poor./His Eldest son Brook L.L.D.& F.R.C./dying in London Novr 29 173. PAYLER Esqr.of Ileden in Kent/SIR BROOK TAYLOR/ began his career in 1793, as Private Secretary to LORD GRENVILLE/the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs/and he successively represented His Sovereign affairs/ as Minister/at the Courts of Hesse Cassel, Stuttgard, Munich, and Berlin/until 1830. when he was obliged to resign his post/on account of ill health/This tablet was erected as a tribute of affection to the memory of the deceased/ by his surviving relations. C.11 TAYLOR Sacred to the memory of/Captain BRIDGES WATKINSON TAYLOR of the Royal Navy (Fifth son of/the Revd.EDWARD TAYLOR of Bifrons) born Sept.25th 1777/He served with distinguished zeal and credit from the early age of/15 years, with little interval until the period of his death which was/caused by the upsetting of his boat off BRINDISI in the Atlantic/on the 24th Feby.18 whilst he was in the Command of His Majesty’s ship/APOLLO and forwarding measures for projected attack upon the island of Corfu then in the possession of the French/He was not less conspicuous for the active & gallant manner/in which he discharged his duty to his King and country, than for/kindness of heart, benevolence of disposition, exemplary and unaffected piety, and it is remarkable that his meritorious and useful/career was closed by a fatal accident from which under providence/he had at the risk of his own life rescued at viours periods/of his service, three of his fellow creatures/ He had the honour of sharing in the glory of the victorys/of the 1st of June 1794, and of the Nile on the 17th August 1798, on the 18th of the said month when Lieut. On board the Leander of 50 guns/He was wounded and taken prisoner in a hard contested action/between that ship and the French ship Genereax of 74 guns/In proof of the esteem and affection borne to his memory by/the Officers of the Apollo they have erected a monument/to him in the Church of Portsmouth/This table is place here by his surviving brothers and sisters/in testimony of their attachment to a most affectionate/and beloved brother. Vicar of this Parish/and one of His Majesty’s Justice’s of the Peace for this County/He was born 26th August 1734, succeeded to the family estate’s/on the death of his elder brother HERBERT TAYLOR Esquire, in 1767/and died on the 8th of December 1798/He married in 1769, MARGARET, only daughter of Thomas PAYLER/of Ileden in this County Esquire/who died at Brussell’s on the 2nd April 1789 aged 36, and is buried here/he had issue by her eight sons and daughters/to whose education he exclusively devoted many years of his life/1 MARY ELIZABETH married in 1796 to EDWARD WILBRAHAM-BOOTLE of Lathom House/in the County of Lancaster, Esquire/2 CHARLOTTE. Married in 1794, to the REVEREND EDWARD NORTHEY A.M. Canon of Windsor./3 EDWARD. Married on the 6th of September 1802 to LOUISA, only daughter/of the Reverend CHARLES BECKINGHAM, of Bourn Place, in this County, by whom he has issue/4 HERBERT/5 BROOK 6 WILLIAM, who was drowned on the 16th of July 1797/in the 20th year of his age, in the River Thame’s. by the oversetting of a boat near Richmond/and whose remains also lie here/7 BRIDGES WATKINSON 8 MARGARET who died Lathom House on the 24th October 1809/in the 30th year of her age, and is buried in Melling Chapel, in the County of Lancaster/This tablet is in affectionate remembrance inscribed by the surviving children,/to the memory of their much lamented parents and brother and sisters/1810 Wall plaque in white marble, coloured coat of arms underneath.
