Mr. W. A. Forsyth, F.!2.l.B.A., the eminent architect, who has been called in, reports that it is absolutely necessary, in order to preserve the Church, to carry out immediately the following works: SOUTH DOORWAY 1. Supporting and strength- ening the unique Norman South Door. Underpinning the walls where necessary. Creating a dry area all round the Church in order to safeguard the stability of the building for the future- Repairs to the stone work of the windows. An V efficient system of heating. The cost of these works is estimated at £1,800 The Parochial Church Council for the united parishes of bridge and Datrixbourne, which is responsible for the upkeep of two ancient churches, is now faced with this heavy expenditure... They therefore appeal to the parishioners, to the Church people of the Diocese, and to the wider circle of all who are interested in the history and architecture of this country to assist them in raising this sum in order to preserve this wonderfully rich and characteristic specimen of late Norman architecture.
