Tmephone:Cm)3403394 LOndon_N8gAE 18th January 1988 Dear Reverend Sir, We are the Canons Regular of st. Augustine (Congregation of the Lateran) otherwise known as the ‘Black Augustinian Canons‘ and we have recently been doing some research into our pre—Reformation history when we had as many 250+ Priories and Abbeys in England. Today in England their are about 200 Canons and Canonesses Regular around the country who are bound together, since Vatican II, by a Confederation. The Confederation itself made up of various Congregations; my own, the Canons Regular of the Lateran, the Canons Regular of Premontre, the Canons Regular of the Immaculate Conception, Canonesses Regular of the Lateran etc. Each in different ways take St. Augustine of Hippo (386 A.D.) as their original inspiration. Through the various research that I have done it seems that your Parish Church was at some stage in history, part of an Augustinian Canon Regular Priory. To get to the point of my letter, I was wondering whether it would be possible for you to send me some information about the Church or about the Priory ruins if there are any. Anything along the lines of a Church guide, postcards of ruins and Church if possible would be a great help in my research. Please find enclosed an address label and postage stamp, if there is any other expense please let me know and I will forward a P.O. Many thanks for reading this letter and I look forward to hearing from you. Yours in Christ, .H A ; fl ' V/7/M2047 cm. Dom. G. Murphy, CRL. ,5 5 ;
