Translation of Dabers from the Austrian National Library

(1) Letter of 21.3.89
Dear Mr Williamson,

Regarding your communication of 3.3.l9&9 I can give you the following
information:

There are neither diaries nor sketches by W Schellinks in the
collections of the Austrian National Library Map Collection (Karten—
Sammlung). As you can see from the enclosed copy taken from Vo1.3O of
the Allgemeinen Lexikon der Bildenden Kunste (General Encyclopaedia 1
«o£.Fine Arts) the Schellinks diaries are in the possession of the

g Bodleian Library in Oxford and the Copenhagen Library.

The Kartensammlung owns only the masterly drawings of W Schellinks,
which are contained in the valuable 50 Volume Baeu Van der Hem Atlas,
and are illustrated and described in the 35th Volume of the Walpole Society
(Glasgow, 1959).

The opening hours of the Kartensammlung are: Mon — Wed, and Fri
9:00 acme "  p.m.

(2) Article on Schellinksin the ALdBK vo1.3o

Schellinks (schellincks, Schellings) Willem — painter, drawer (?!), etzher
and poet; b.2.2.l627 (?) Amsterdam, d.12.10.l678 ibid, bro. of previous
entry.

1661/5 travelled through England, France, Italy (1664 Rome), Sicily, Malta,

Germany and Switzerland (his diary used by Houhraken now ih the Copenhagen

Eibrary and in the Bodleian Library, Oxford). Married 14.10.1667 in

Amsterdam the widow of the engraver D Danckerts. Made his will in 1669

and 1676. His unfinished pictures were completed posthumously by F

Moucheron and Claes Berchem, which latter was an artist in his own right.

....(there then follow lists of which paintings hang in which galleries,

including the marked reference to the drawings in hhe Austrian National

Library, and finally a paragraph on background literature, including

work by the aforementioned Houbraken.)

NB. I am unsure that I am right about the very last clause of the article
