,_\_ THE KlNG’S SCHOOL CANTERBURY CT12ES John Williamson Esq., Beechmount Conyngham Bridge nr. Canterbury Kent 5 September 1991 Dear Mr Williamson, I hope you will pardon an unsolicited enquiry. Paul Pollggk has suggested that I write to you with the problem. I am writing a short monograph on the Rev'd A J Galpin (1861 — 1926) who was Headmaster of King's from 1897 — 1910. He was a remarkably successful Headmaster and no one knows why he should have resigned at the age of 49. Cathedral and School records can throw no light on this. Paul therefore thinks that tPe%§nly hope of ascertaining the reason for the resignation will be withfif‘ ily papers, letter, diaries or the like. There is unlikely to be reference to the resignation in correspondence or diaries other than those for 1910 since it was not until 1910 that he appears even to have considered resigning and by the end of that year he was happily installed in the living of Saltwood. Please do not go to any trouble, of course, but if you do conveniently have any information or ideas, I should be most grateful. With best wishes, kg vs Dr T R Hands
