Dean and Chapter of Canterbury Cathedral House, The Precincts, Canterbury, CT1 2EH Te|eph0ne (0227) 463510 FROM THE CATHEDRAL ARCHIVES Fax (0227) 762897 CATHEDRAL ARCHIVIST: Mrs. Charlotte Hodgson, B.A., D.A.A. 21 October 1992 Mr John Wilkinson Beechmount Conyngham Lane Bridge Nr. Canterbury Dear Mr Wilkinson Thank you for your letter of 2 October, which was handed on to me by Miss Oakley, who felt it was more appropriate that I answered your queries. I am pleased that you enjoyed the display of documents in the Archives on ’Friends’ Evening’ this year and that you found so many items of particular interest to you. The catalogues of the parish records of Bridge and Patrixbourne, which you found in the blue folders should also be deposited in the church safes of those two parishes. It is a general rule that when documents and registers from the parish are deposited at the Cathedral Archives that copies of catalogues are lodged with the parish concerned. You may find that the vicar has these on file. However, if you find they are not available we would be pleased to supply the parish with another copy. On the second issue you raised the strong rooms here contain documents only and we do not have any silver for Patrixbourne in the Archives. If you have a list of the silver being deposited with the Cathedral it is more likely to be in the treasury. I therefore suggest that you contact Mr Fred Whittaker, the Vesturer of the Cathedral who should be available to help you further. The Ordinance Survey Map of 1873 is I am afraid too large to place on a photocopy machine. We have a rule not to copy any items larger than the platten size, however you are very welcome to visit the office and make a tracing of the section that interest you. I therefore enclose a leaflet concerning access and hope this will be of use to you. Yours sincerely, C Q.—» Cathedral Archivist
