The triangular layout of house, dependancies and kitchen garden can be indentified in relation to later plans(red outline). Two altemative accesses to the Dover road-are shown in a horseshoe pattem - that to the northwest on the original line adopted in subsequent plans, that to the south east being close to the current access. A- traditional parkland layout is shown with an enclosure extending on all sides. It is not easy to relate the view from the Kent Register dating from approximately 1780 to this plan(p'6).The pyramidal structure to the l it left in the view cannot be easily related to the tower of Bridge church. The most likely interpretation of the view is that it shows the entrance(west) front relating to the building line and sunken areas embedded at basement level in the present house. » 1873494 StIvey(p9) T This is the first detailed record available and shows many of the elements present in later plans. The position of the house and dependencies are already established,as is the boundary of the kitchen garden in two enclosures. The entrance and lodge follow fire line adopted until the-changes shown in the 1938 survey (the lodge still exists). The chalkpit and spinney can be seen to the east. The existing bay window on the north east front can also be identilied. s 1&7 Sixveyipw) This plan is almost identical to the previous version though the outline ot the different elements can be seen more clearly. The depression to the north east is identifed as a shalt: pit. . ’tQ17StIvey(ptli " The layout differs little from the two earlier plans §'l0UQh the dependencies courtyard has been altered by the demolition of two earlier buildings and their replacement by buildings which correspond closely with the present coach and garden cottage. A building has also appeared in the spinney to the north east with the current ‘no name‘ bungalow. Unlike the 1819 survey the later plans siuding this one show no clear garden layout and the former parkland has been oivided into a number of enclosures with no clear pattem. 1938 Suveyip ti.) The gardens now closely correspond with the current layout and the house and forecourtt record the additions made by the Zbrowskis(see below for changes to the main house). The present layout of the dependancy courtyard is shown blocking the route through from the forecourt with the circuitous route to the south-east forming the only access to the rear as at preserrt(this leads to the speculation that the existing unused gateway to the inner courtyard related to the earlier layouts).Additional greenhouses or conservatories have been added to the north side of the kitchen garden, and the two tennis courts, now in a very dilapidated c0ndition,can also be identified. To the north-east the present stables building appears for the first timejndicating that this was ad®d at a later stage than the other dependencies. The main access drive has been moved to its present alignment indicating " , that this change was made bfore the construction of the A2 trunk road. -r
