The Friars - Aylesford Priory — is an ancient religious house of the Order of Carmelites dating back to the 13th Century. We have arranged a guided tour by one of the brothers around die priory, culminating in a cream tea in the restaurant. 1 Travel by own car, meet 2.30 pm at the Priory entrance. This will take place during the Dickens Festival when hopefully there will be an opportunity to see the costumed characters of Dickens at the Victo- rian Country Fair. We are now into the second phase of this project, organised by member Martin Vye, with the second set of reminiscences being transcribed. When we 11ave all the transcriptions completed, they will be edited and tl1en sorted into themes. Eventually we intend to put the information up on the Bridge Village web site. This will take some time to complete and we do not anticipate it being ready until well into 2013.. We will keep you ad- vised ofprogress. Transport and or escorts can usually be arranged with other members living nearby. On trips by members cars, those without transport can usually be accom« modated in the spare seats. Imogen has spoken to us before and is always an enthusiastic and engrossing speaker. It consists of two Tudor wings flanking a later classical central block. The hall is only open on certain days of the year, and the dates of opening are not decided until January for each year. Between 1767 and 1773 he opened 308 Anglo—Saxon graves along the old A2 Canterbury—Dover road on the Downs above Kingston and 336 others at the nearby villages of Bishopsboume and Bekesboume as well as at Chartham. Helen Allison a fluent and always interesting speaker will talk about vil- lage life just before and during the First World War, a time that now seems in the distant past, although the last person to have fought in that War has only just died.
