Footbridge at Mill Lane, Bridge

Thank you for your letter of 23 October regarding the replacement of the footbridge over the Ford.
Kent County Council will be replacing the footbridge as soon as a new gas main has been laid and this
is expected to be carried out in the New Year. The original gas main was tied under the bridge and as a
matter of safety Kent County Council wish it now to follow the same line but to be dug into the road.

I understand from the files that the millennium bridge project did not previously go ahead due to lack of
support for funding. The Parish Council did, however, ask Kent County Council to look at these plans
as an alternative for the missing bridge but unfortunately the additional cost over and above a typical
replacement was prohibitive. I believe that the replacement bridge will be constructed of Douglas Fir.
