PLANNING YOUR VISIT Reserving a Desk Access to all the manuscript and tnicroiilm collections is by appointment only. Please telephone or write to the appropriate oifice in advance of your visit, giving the dates that you wish to come and the type oi research you are hoping to do. This will enable us to confirm that the documents are available at that location and to reserve either a desk or a microliltn reader for the time that you require. Please let us know ilyou cannot keep the appointment. lithe searchroom is full it may be necessary to allocate your desk or microfilm reader to another user if you have not arrived within one hour of the appointed time. Obtaining a Reader's Ticket Kent is a member oithe County Archive Research Network (CARN) scheme and you will therefore need a reader's ticket for access to each of the three searchrooms. Please bring with you two passport-sized photographs and identification which includes your name, address and signature (c.g. driving licence). Primed Book Collection at the Centre for Kentish Sttttlies llyou only wish to use the local studies printed book collection at the Centre for Kerttish Studies you may visit without an appointment and without a reader’s ticket, providing there is space available for you in the searchroom. . Research Service The heritage service in Kent employs tt professional research assistant at Maidstone and Canterbury to undertake genealogical and other research. The fee is £24-U0 per hour with a minitntttn charge of!Il2..0(). Please ask for an enquiry form for further details. Consultancy Service We can offer specialist advice on allaspects ofarchives management, including conservation and collection management. Conservation oldocuments and books will be charged at £l‘t3'0O per hour. linquiries about this service should be directed to Canterbury Cathedral Archives. All other consultancy services (cg transcription, translation, advice on records management, storage requirements, display) will be charged at £24.00 per hour. Printouts from the microlilm can also be supplied. Please ask for an order form and details ofthe current lees and charges. Where possible you will be asked to pay in advance and your copies will be sent to you when they are ready.
