S T A T U T O R Y I N S T R U M E N T S 197 No. HIGHWAYS, ENGLAND AND WALES The London—Canterbury-Dover Trunk Road (Canterbury By—Pass Slip Roads) Order 197 1.7- C1 e 7 m@ all9al...¢,.gggo0lOQoIllllanooalbcalnoolaoooia Coming into Operationecouccaanoaua=»noa:coocoIonnnl97 The Secretary of State for the Environment makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 7 and 44 of the Highways Act 1959 (a), and section 68 of the Highways Act 1971 (b) and now vested in him (0), and of all other enabling powers:— 1, The new highways which the Secretary of Stite proposes to construct along the routes described in the Schedule to this Orcer which connect — (i) two sections of the Upper Harbledown ly—Pass divided at the point where the route of the main new trunk road enters the same, and (ii) the main new trunk road uith.other highways, and (iii)the Bridge By-Pass with the Tiunk Road and two sections of the Trunk Road at a point where the route of the main new trunk road meets these highways at the places stated in that Schedule, (the highways along these routes being in this Order referred to as “the slip roads": shall become trunk roads as from the date when this Order comes into operation. 2. The centre lines of the new trunk roads ire indicated by heavy black lines on the deposited plan. ‘ 3.1 .The Secretary of State directs as respeatsany part of a highway which crosses the route of any of the new trunk roads that — (a) where the highway is a highway maiutainable at the public expense by a local highway authority, the part in question shall be maintained by that authority; and (b) where the highway is not a highwa; so maintainable and is not‘ maintainable under a special enactment or by reason of tenure, enclosure or prescription, the Secretary‘of State shall be under no duty to maintain the part in guestion, until, in either case, a date to be specified in a notice given by the Secretary of State to the highway authority for that highway. The date specified will not be later than the date on which the relewant route is opened for the purpose of through traffic. _. _=...._.—.......——.—..— ..q_-._-. In this Order:- "the deposited plan" means the plan folio numbered CSE 234/5/26/O4 marked "The London — Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road {Canterbury By—Pass Slip Roads) Order 197 "" signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of the Environment, St Christophe: House, Southwark Street, London SE1, where it may be inspected free of charge at all reasonable hours; "the main new trunk "means the trunk road to be constructed by road" the Secretary of State in pursuance of the London — Canterbury - Dover Trunk Road (Canterbury By—Pass) Order 197} "the new trunk roads" means the highways mentioned in Article l of this Order and “the new trunk road” means one of those highways; "the Trunk Road" means the Lonéon » Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road (A2); "the Upper Harbledown means the trun: road to be provided in By-Pass” pursuance of ”Uhe London — Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road (upeer Harbledown By—Pass) Order 1973“(d>; "the Bridge By—Pass" means the trunk road to be provided in pursuance of “The London — Canterbury - Dover Trunk Road (Bridge By—Pass) Order 1973"(e), 5. This Order shall come into operation on the 197 and may be cited as the London — Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road (Canterbury By—Pass Slip Roads) Order l97 . Signed by authority of Director the Secretary of State South Eastern Road Construction Unit 197 Departmrnt of the Environment _—_...-..«.._.»: (d) s.I. 1973,/1457 (e) s,:. 1973/1456 S C H E D U L 7 .*_a Routes of the new trunk roads The routes of the slip roads are the following: (l) Merggr of the main new trunk road with the Upper Harbledown B15Pass at Upper Harbledown A route south of Upper Harbledown to connect two sections of the Upper Harbledown By—Pass, leaving the Upper Harbledown By—Pass south- west of “Willow Down",passing under the main new trunkroad and rejoining the Upper Harbledown By—Pass where the main new trunk road merges with it (the new trunk road along this route being given the reference letter A on the deposited plan). (2) Junction with the A28 Thaningjon Road at Thanington Three routes to connect the eastbound and westbound carriageways of the main new trunk road with the A28 Thanington Road (the new trunk roads along these routes being given the reference letters B, C and D on the deposit ed plan). (3) Junction with the Trunk Road qt_3riage A route to connect the Trunk Road northwest of Bridge Village with the westbound carriageway of the main new trunk road (the new trunk road along this route being given the reference letter G on the deposited plan). (4) Merggr of the main new trunk road with the Bridge Bx—Pass at Bridgg Two routes to connect the westbound carriageway of the Bridge By-Pass and the Trunk Road southeast of the point where the route of the main new trunk road meets these highways with that section of the Trunk Road which is situated northwest of the Bridge By-Bass, all such routes being northwest of Bridge Village (the new trunk roads along these routes being given the reference letters E and F on the deposited plan).
