Qgpartment of the Environment HIGHWAYS ACTS 1959 TO 1971 THE LONDON - CANTERBURY - DOVER TRUNK ROAD (CANTERBURY BY¥PASS) ORDER 197 TH LODON - CANTERBURY - DOVER TRUNK ROAD (CANTERBURY BYFPTSS SLIP ROADS) ORDER 197 (THE LONDON - CANTERBURY - DOVER TRUNK ROAD (HARBLEDOWN-BRIDGE DE-TRUNKING) ORDER 197 THE LONON - CANTERBURY - DOVER TRUNK ROAD (CANTERBURY BYLPASS SIDE » ROADS) ORDER 197 THE SECRETRRI OF STATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT hereby gives notice that he proposes to make the following Orders :- 1. An Order under sections 7 and 20 of the Highways Act 1959 providing :- (a) that a road about 6.75kh (4.2ndles) in length which he proposes to construct to the south of the City of Canterbury from a point on the Upper Harbledown By—Pass to the western end of the Bridge By-Pass in the County of Kent shall become a trunk road as from the date when the Order comes into operation; and (b) for the construction as part of the new trunk road a bridge over the navigable waters of the River Great Stour. 2. Ln Order under section 7 of the Highways Act 1959 providing that roads which he proposes to construct to connect:- * (a) two sections of the Upper Harbledown By-Fess, south of Upper Harbledown village, where the new trunk road meets the said highway; (b) the new trunk road with other highways at Thanington and Bridge, and (C) the Bridge By-Ease with the London - Canterbury - Dover Trunk V Road, and two sections of the London - Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road where the new trunk road meets these highways northwest of Bridge village; shall become trunk roads as from the date when the Order comes into operation. 3. An Order under section 7 of the Highways Act 1959, the effect of which is to provide that lengths of the London - Canterbury — Dover Trunk Road to be superseded by the new trunk road to be provided in pursuance of the London - Canterbury - Dover Trunk Road (Canterbury By-Pass) Order 197 shall cease to be trunk road as from the date on which notice is given by him to the County Council of Kent (who will become the highway authority responsible for those lengths) that the said new trunk road is open for through traffic. _ 1 - 4. in Order under section 9 of the Highways Act 1959 which will:- (a) authorise him — (i) to improve, raise, lower or otherwise alter highways, (ii) to stop up highways, (iii) to construct new highways, (iv) to stop up private means of access to premises, and (v) to provide new means of access to premises, all on or in the vicinity of the above mentioned new trunk road, and (b) provide for the transfer of each of the said new highways to the County Council of Kent as from the date on which he notifies that authority that the new highway has been completed and is open for through traffic. COPIES of the draft Orders and of the relevant plans may be insptcted free of charge at all reasonable hours from 18 June 1976 to 17 September 1976 at the Department of the Environment, Room P2/O38, 2 Marsham Street, Iondon SW1 and at the offices of the South Eastern Road Construction Unit, Federated House, London Road, Dorking, Surrey, RH4 lSZ; the Kent County Council, County Hall, Maidstone, Kent; the Canterbury City Council, Dane John, Canterbury, Kent and the Canterbury Public Library, Beaney Institute, High Street, Canterbury, Kent . ANY PERSON may not later than 17 September 1976 object to the making of the Orders, by notice to the Secretary of State at his address at the South Eastern Road Construction Unit quoting the title of the Order or Orders and stating the grounds of objection.
