Indian Clinic: The Health Centre’s _ charity Health for All has issued its fourth annual report-. Last year’s report concluded that what the clinic at Kanjiar really needed was a full—ti1ne nurse, and brought news of fund—raising for a vehicle to transport the village health workers and to carry food to Dadpur. -. ._ _..; 1 -_ T This year’s report gives news that Neelam Verma has joined the team and the vehicle arrived and went into service in the middle of last year. N eelam Verma is a fully qualified nurse with lots of T experience of working in Bihar. She joined Mamta and Alpana in July and has been running nurse-led clinics since that time. She is able to diagnose and treat patients herself and is regularly treating common infections and problems that affect villagers. She and the rest of the team have also been setting up Women’s groups in the villages and these have focused on health education. As well as providing transport for the weekly food programme at Dadpur, the vehicle provides essential transport for the health care team to their increasing 2 number of clinics and village . women’s groups. Kanjiar, and the clinic, are like most of rural Bihar, without electricity. One supporter from Wales proposed a project to raise funds toinstall solar power to provide lighting and a fridge for the health centre. By completing a sponsored triathlon, enough money was raised to complete this project and installation began in December. Thefeeding programme in Dadpur‘ has continued and the serious problem of malnutrition, seen only a few years ago is no longer evident. The villagers, however, remain desperately poor. Most of the income comes from individuals, regular or one-off donations. Fund-raising events have included coffee mornings, wine and wisdom and musical events. Dr Mark Jones thanks everybody here and in India for their interest“ and continued support. Church diary: Thursday, May 1 7pm Health and Healing, 7 Windmill Close; Tuesday.
