Church: The Rev Paul Filmer will
lead the 10am Holy Communion
Service at St Peter’s. The service .
will give thanks through words and
song for the life of Pam Farbrace
who died last month aged 74.
Latterly, because of illness, Pam
wasn’t often seen in church, but for
more than 30 years she took her
turn cleaning the church,
arranging flowers, and serving on
the Parochial Church Council, as
treasurer for many years. She made
toys to

sell in aid of church funds and her
professionally-baked cakes were
always snapped up at church
bazaars. She and David provided a
Christmas tree each year. Pam
Worked as a solicitors’ secretary for
more than 40 years before retiring
14 years ago. Her ability was such
that she was invited to become
articled. and so qualify as a solicitor
herself, but she never would. David
and the family would be pleased ‘if
all their friends and neighbours
would join them for this special
service.

Lych Gate: During the week,
probably in the early hours of
Friday, about 300 roofing tiles were
stolen from St Peter’s lych gate
roof. Theft of these tiles is not

Rural crime: Julian Brazier MP has

Patrixbourne Trees: The parish
council has received notice of
proposed Work to trees at Bifrons
Cottage, The Street. The works are:
cut back and lift crowns of trees
along the roadside to achieve a
highway clearance of 5.2m;
additional work to shape up the
line of

predominantly yew trees and to
reduce the height of the tallest by a
maximum of 20 per cent; remove
elder and climbing plants; cut back
yew from the side of 7 St Mary’s
Road.

New Dwelling: The parish council
has been consulted by the City
Council over a planning

application to build a new three-
bedroom house attached to 1
Bifrons Road.

Spring flowers: Goodnestone Park
is open on Sunday, March 15, for a
Snowdrop and Hellebore

extravaganza. The gates open at

be no services at Bishopsbourne.
However, members of the
congregation will be welcome at
any of the following services being
held in churches forming the '
Barham Downs united benefice of
which St Mary’s is a member:

Holy Communion will be
celebrated at St Margaret of
Antioch, Womenswold, at 8am; the
Eucharist at St Giles’s, Kingston, at
10am and evening prayer at St John

be united Communion celebrated
at Barham Methodist Chapel at

Everyone from Bishopsbourne is
invited to join in a pancake party to
mark Shrove Tuesday and the

are about to get under way. Part of
the work includes the sale of a few
church pews. These are in good
condition and are of various
lengths.

Looking ahead, the Rector is
leading a pilgrimage to Santiago de
Compostella, in northern Spain
next year, following in the footsteps
of thousands of pilgrims over the
centuries who have visited the
shrine of St James at the cathedral
there. -

The trip will be by air and will
include the services of a local guide
on the four excursions planned;
there will be a stay of seven nights
in a three star hotel on half board
basis.‘ The cost, inclusive of
insurance and travel to and from
Barham will be £659. For details

A nearer date is a short holiday
with the Rectorin October this
year in Norfolk, in October this
year, staying Monday to Friday, full
board at about £140, in a Lutyens
house on the sea a mile or so from
the seaside resorts of Sheringham

and can be seen during normal

PARISH COUNCIL: The village hall
was full on February 12 when V ~
parishioners met Bob Pollard from _
Parking Services and councillors
prior to the council meeting to
discuss parking problems in the
village. A number of issues were
highlighted including the problems
caused bycommuters parking in ,
- pwthe village, by people parking‘on
, ’ double yellow lines to visit local
shops and in particular parents
parking on zigzag lines to drop off
and collect their children from
school. ' V

Mr Pollard reported that parking
attendants are not able to enforce
illegal parking on zigzag lines at
present and that he will refer this '
matter to the Police. Villagers have
requested that parking attendants
visit the village during the time of
the school runs as problems are
considerably worse at this time.

The majority of local-residents
attended the meeting because of
their concerns that the area around
, pk Green Court was earmarked for a

parking scheme. Cllr Esdale said he
was not aware of any development
