Ron Bates and Tony Bevan were welcomed back after illness. Tony, who has been ourwelfare committee officer for several years, has expressed his wish . to give up the post due to his health problems and we would very much like somebody in the Branch who would ‘take this task on. As mentioned last month, we are planning to have short talks at some of our monthly meetings. As we _ have now discovered that we have a Wealth _of interesting members who would be willing to give a short talk on various subjects, we plan to do" that. The first one is likely to be at the June_ meeting and details will be armounced next month. - The. Group Games Evening hosted by us went very well- with Geoff Welch proving to be a competent snooker player! Our quiz night at the Hay Wain, Bramling was enjoyable and £106 was raised for the poppy appeal. Our next two meetings will be on May 10 and June 14. . Fish Scheme (Neighbourly Help) . News: Two important dates. this month; firstly, the Cornelia Slav in Blossom. Tour on May 4 and secondly, the year’s fund—raising coffee coming on Saturday, May 21 in Bridge Village Hall between 10—noon. There will be a raffle, bric-a- brac stall and, best of all, cakes and plants. Do please come, if only for a few minutes. - At the April meeting a representative of the Hi Centre, a charity for the hard of hearing, ran a hearing aid re-tubing clinic. It is recommended that NHS Hearing- Aids should be re-tubed every three months. With this in mind they will be revisiting every quarter the dates to be announced later. PARISH COUNCIL: Notes from the meeting of Bridge Parish Council held in Bridge village hall on April 14 Notice Board — Cllr Esdale reported that the new -notice board for Bridge Down was ready and that a site for its erection had been agreed with SERCO. It was hoped to install it within the next week. - Bus Shelter — Cllr Esdale reported that new panes of glass had been cut and that the broken ones would be replaced as soon as possible. Graff1ti— our Esdale advised that nothing further had been heard from the police on this matter following the recent outbreak of graffiti in the village. Refuse collection changes — During the parish meeting last month the parish council were asked to debate this issue following expressions of concern by villagers. At the parish council meeting it was noted that a letter outlining the views of the village had been sent to CCC in April 2004. It was therefore decided to take no further action until the new scheme had been introduced in the village and there had been an ' opportunity to assess how effectively it was operating. Highways — Details of the speed of traffic using Bridge Hill had been-received from Kent Highways following their traffic survey in February. The statistics did not differentiate between the speeds of vehicles entering and leaving the village. Kent Village of the Year ' Competition - Cllr Edmonds reported that Bridge has been entered in four categories of this jy*ear’s conipetition- Bench for Bridgeway Stores - It was agreed to order a new bench to be I placed outside Bridgeway Stores. The Council expressed its thanks to Mr Dhaliwal, the owner of the I stores, for agreeing to this. Library van — The Council agreed to publicise the times for the mobile library van in the next newsletter and .on the village website.
