' Positive arts: The Red Lion at Bridge presents a Folk and Roots Festival on Friday and Saturday June 17 - and 18, featuring Chris Wood, Andy Cutting, Carmine and Wild Turkey, Happy Trials, Oyster Morris, Offcumduns. On the,Friday at the village hall, there will be a Cajun dance with Wild Turkey, doors open at .8pm. On Saturday June 18 at the Red Lion Inn there will be free music all day, with Celtic sessions and morris dancing, as well as a farmers’ market and a display of traction engines and tractors. The president, Hugh Wheeler, presented the chairman with his Veteran’s Badge. This was followed by a talk on the work of the St John Ambulance by Geoff Weloh. Members expressed their good wishes to Tony Bevan, Jim Mount and Mrs Baker, landlady of the Unicorn. The next two meetings .will be on July 12 and August 9 both at the Recreation Club Littlebourne at 8pm. Village fete: The fete in aidof the Bridge and Patrixbourne school, St Peter’s Church, Bridge, and St Mary’s Church, Patrixbourne, held in blazing sunshine, drew a large a a crowd, with 25 stalls and sideshows, drinks and refreshments."l‘he _ fancy dress parade, starting near the tennis courts in Patrixbourne Road, arrived at the school for the opening at noon. The standard of costumes was so imagirrative . and high that the judges, after a long deliberation, decided that the prize would be awarded to all the , entrants. At 12.30pm there was a , display by. the Reception, Years 1 and 2 children, followed by a Magic Show. Country Dancing by Year 5 and The Country Dancing Club was followed by singing and music by Year 3 and 4 and the Cinque Ports Lindy Hoppers gave an accomplished performance. The Snowdown Band provided musical entertainment. ' A big success was the tug’o’war between Years 5 and 6, plus two surprise items, teams provided by the fathers, followed by /teams provided by the mothers The afternoons events ended with the .draw for the raffles. The crowd, having drunk the bar dry and eaten all the barbecuedfood and refreshments, dispersed from what had been a very enjoyable afternoon. The fully-equipped car comes at £40,000 (the yellow high-visibility bonnet costs £2000). It has satellite tracking, satellite navigation and an on- board computer for receiving calls, and is normally based in Canterbury.
