Graham Badman, strategic director for education, spoke warmly of Mrs. Newton and all that she hadacbieved ‘ and contributed since joining the school in 1987. He presented her with a garden sculpture. In her reply Mrs Newton recalled many humorous memories; On the last day of term, Mrs Newton was driven to school in a 1927 Rolls Royce. Children lined the approach road to the school, waving flags to welcome her. Later, an Assembly was held for the whole school, parents and other guests. The. . hall was decorated with chi1dren’s_ portraits of Mrs Newton and children read poems and letters that they had written for her. She was presented with a variety of gifts fiom parents, children, staff and the friends of the school. _ She thanked everybody for their tributes and gifts and spoke of the happy memories that she will take away. Smallest Garden Party: This annual event will be held on Saturday August 20 from 12.30»2pm and from 5.30-.7pm at 25 The Close, Union Road. There will be a Traidcraft Stall as well as a raffle.
