The Bounds of Patrixboume & St Pauls 1759 The first mark is upon ye ground close by ye stone that stands at ye way side at ye entrance in of ye lane that leads from the City of Canterbury to Hode farm & is by the comers of Mr Abbotts Homepits & Mr Waddells Long gutteridge at this mark ye parishioners did meet, then we proceeded on to ye second mark which is upon a maple in ye hedge in ye Bottom of Long gutteridge next to Mr Andrews ground & is about thirty-eight rods from ye highway that is leading from Bridge to Canterbury, this mark has not been mark’d before but by mutual consent of both parishes it was judged very proper to mark there; then we crost ye corner of Long Gutteridge & marked ye third mark upon a blackthornstump in ye hedge adjoining to ye highway that leads from Bridge to Canterbury this mark stands about fifteen rods from ye corner of Mr Andrews two acres & is about twelve rods from ye gate that stands next ye road in ye corner next to Mr Abbotts twentyfive acres, then we went on to ye fourth mark, proceeding in ye middle of ye highway till we came to ye bottom of ye hill call’d stickfast hill that leads to ye city, at ye left hand side of ye way we marked again upon a post, St Pauls at one side & Patrixbourne at ye other side side this mark stands between poorpriest Hospital land & Mr Hatchers land & in the footpath that leads to the city. Then we proceeded on along ye dike that is between Poorpriest & Smiths Hospital land at one side and Mr Hatchers & Mrs Rookes land at ye other side, St Pauls parishioners at their side, & patrixboume Parishoners at their side, till we came to ye further comer of Smiths Hospital lands there we marked ye fifth and last time upon an elm tree.
