If I can deal with your enquiry in the order identified in your letter, the following information might assist you when discussing the lssues with your Parish Councillors at your meeting in November. 1. 003356/T M One officer has designated responsibility for Bridge under the present arrangements, but has the support of the remainder of the rural section should the area experience any problems. Resources have in the past been directed into Bridge as problems have arisen. This officer provides cover between the hours of 07.00 and midnight and until 02.00 hours Friday and Saturday. The police constable having responsibility for Bridge, also has to cover the following areas; Lower Hardres, Upper Hardres, Bossingham, Patrixsbourne, Bishopsbourne. Bekesbourne and Resources are available from the core sections at Canterbury to patrol when cover is not available by the Bridge officer, and I would also add that in his absence, a rural colleague who covers the Barham beat, also fills in. The level of recorded crime is as follows; 1992 Bridge 101 offences Clear up rate 11.88% 1993 —"— 106 ~ 14.15% 1994 to date 91 offences Clear up rate 15.38% %\; ?//n CQNsianLA ll RY A _«...x-3:-.-.—-;¢n:;v2m;-... -4 '.u.~rFBe.%Ly2;:v.:~.:u~.a;.aa213i:::..:. 7/D4~&’7l—_ -2- 5. With the evolvement of the Force Intelligence Review, we are, as an Area, looking at community policing and the benefits to be derived from this strategy. There are no plans however, to increase the number of officers in this area at present. However, this is under review. In conclusion I would add, that the core sections do have an added responsibility to policing the rural area and respond to calls, over and above those responded to by the eCommunity Beat Officer, I am more than satisfied that there is sufficient cover for the rural area, which is consistent to the crime rate currently experienced. Yours sincerely, Archie HOUSTON Acting Superintendent ,9 PARISH COUNCIL OF BRIDGE Canterbury CT1 1YW Chairman: Mervyn Gulvin Clerk: Margaret Church 4 September 1995 Dear Sgt. Pollard, Bridge: Traffic matters Having tried, unsuccessfully, to reach you a couple of times today, it seems easier to write. The Parish Council has had a number of complaints about parking in the High Street on yellow lines adjacent to the Western Avenue junction; we have been asked it a traffic warden could attend — perhaps on a Saturday morning — to try and deter people as parking reduces visibility for cars turning on to the High Street. We have also had a complain from a resident of Windmill Avenue, concerning a large van which is parked close to the junction of Windmill Avenue and Western Avenue, again making is difficult, and hazardous, for drivers turning into Western Avenue from Windmill Avenue. if you were able to help with either of these I would be grateful. Church Renville Oast 72a New House Lane Renville Thanington Without Bridge Canterbury CT4 7BJ Canterbury Tel. 0227 458437 15 October 1994 Dear Chief Superintendent, RURAL POLICING At the recent Parish Council meeting, councillors noted with concern the seemingly very low level of rural policing for the area which includes Bridge. Over the last eighteen months the village has been increasingly troubled by vandalism, petty theft and house—breaking. We are aware that we are not the only village having such problems despite the best efforts of the officers assigned to us. in helping councillors to answer questions and complaints from local residents it would be helpful if you could supply some information on the following points: the number of officers assigned to police the area in which Bridge falls the extent of that area the availability of back—up officers during, for example, the weekends the level of recorded crime and clear-up rates over, say, the last three years. whether there are any plans to increase the number of officers assigned to the area. I look forward to being able to pass this information to councillors at the next Parish Council meeting in early November. Yours sincerely.
